LOCAL WI PUT ALL THEIR EGGS IN ONE BASKET

AN amazing £600 has been raised for Broadacres’ women’s refuge thanks to the hard work and generosity of a local women’s institute.

The WI nationally has been encouraging its members to support women who have been the victims of domestic abuse through its ‘No More Violence against Women’ campaign.

Women in the 12-strong Crathorne WI decided to do something for our women’s refuge and began knitting little Easter chicks.

They approached Tesco and Sainsbury’s supermarkets who donated over 200 Cadbury Crème Eggs between them to sit under the knitted chicks. Other people also donated eggs and the WI members themselves bought 160.

The eggs, along with over 40 knitted baskets, were sold locally, including at a farm shop, and this has resulted in an amazing £600 being raised for the refuge.

In addition, the WI has also donated toiletries and chocolate gift packs for the children at the refuge.

Shirley Cooke, from the Crathorne WI, said: “We are only a small group but we are delighted to have been able to raise so much money for the refuge.”
