A survey carried out by the social housing publication Inside Housing has revealed that Broadacres is second in the UK when it comes to building the most energy efficient homes.
Inside Housing used its annual ‘Biggest Builders’ survey to look at the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) data on new homes completed between April 2020 and March 2021.
Of the 138 housing associations which supplied data, Broadacres were rated second in energy efficiency, with 112 of the 136 of the homes completed in this period being built to EPC A Grade standard.
We were only slightly behind Newlon Housing Trust, whose 149 homes completed in the same period were all done to EPC A.
Speaking to Inside Housing, Joy Whinnerah, Broadacres’ Development and Investment Director, explained that our ‘standard house type’ is now EPC Band A.
Joy said: “This has partly been driven by the rural nature of our business, with many of our developments located in national parks which tend to come with tougher environmental and design conditions.
“As a rural provider, we’ve got quite a lot of off-gas properties and we have to be ahead of the curve.
“One in nine of our homes already has an air source heat pump, so if we are already putting these in properties it makes sense to bring up the energy efficiency of the home.”
