Charity golf day raises £3,000Golfers who took part in Broadacres’ annual charity golf day have chipped in with a donation of £3,000 to support the campaign to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease.

A total of 15 teams, consisting of four players per team, recently teed off at our annual charity golf day, which was again held at the Rockliffe Hall Golf Club in Hurworth, near Darlington.

Using the Stableford scoring system, the teams played 18 holes of golf, with prizes being awarded to the highest scoring team, along with individual prizes for people who were nearest the pin on a par 3 hole and the longest drive on a par 5 hole.

The golfers then returned to the clubhouse for a two-course dinner and a raffle.

Alison Grainger, Broadacres’ Finance Director, said: “Each year we invite our staff to nominate our charity of the year and Parkinson’s UK was our choice for 2017.

“The charity does an amazing job not only trying to find a cure for this horrible disease, but also supporting those living with Parkinson’s in our communities.

“We were delighted to raise £3,000 through the golf day and we would like to thank all the teams who entered, along with those who provided sponsorship and raffle prizes.”

The cheque was presented to David Hall, Treasurer of the Darlington Support Group for Parkinson’s UK.

David said: “There’s currently no cure for Parkinson’s and we don’t yet know why people get the condition, but there are lots of different treatments, therapies and support available to help people manage the disease.

“Parkinson’s UK is committed to finding a cure for the disease and donations like this go a long way to funding our research and helping those people living with the condition.

“On behalf of the charity, I would like to thank Broadacres for choosing us as their charity of the year and for raising this money.”
