Eligibility to buy your home
As a Broadacres customer, you may be eligible to buy your home under one of two schemes:
- Preserved Right to Buy (RTB)
- Right to Acquire (RTA)
These schemes are offered by housing associations and give tenants the chance to buy their rented home outright at a discount. The discount is calculated depending on the number of years spent as a tenant. The discount under the RTA is limited to between £9,000 – £10,000 for the North Yorkshire area. The maximum RTB discount is £77,900 and will increase each year in April 2015 in line with the consumer price index (CPI).

Which scheme applies to you?
-
If you were a secure tenant of Hambleton District Council in 1993 or Harrogate Borough Council in 1997, became an assured tenant when ownership of your home transferred to Broadacres and you have continuously been a tenant of Broadacres you may qualify for the RTB scheme. You may also qualify if you have succeeded to such a tenancy.
Under the RTA scheme the property and the tenant must qualify. To qualify for the scheme the property must have been built or purchased by a housing association on or after 1st April 1997 and partially funded with Government grant. Properties in some villages and specialised types of accommodation are not eligible. You must also have been a tenant for at least 2 years unless you are a tenant for the first time on or after 18th January 2005, in which case the period is 5 years but you need not have spent these in your present home.
