THE generosity of local businesses and members of the community will ensure that mums and children living in a women’s refuge have a Christmas to remember this year.

The Broadacres-run refuge in North Yorkshire has been inundated with gifts that will be given to the children on Christmas Day.

The gifts, which include toys and board games, will be wrapped by the mums to give to their children on the day. The children will then also be able to pick a gift to give as a present for them mums, ensuring a memorable Christmas Day for everyone.

One of the latest donations came from the Northallerton branch of the Skipton Building Society. Earlier in December, staff asked customers if they would like to make donations and these were handed over to Broadacres this week.

Hannah Foster, Customer Relationship Manager, said: “We normally do a national toy appeal but one of our members of staff mentioned the refuge and we thought it would be nice to support this fantastic local service.

“Our customers and staff have been very generous and we hope the children and mums at the refuge enjoy the gifts and have a fantastic Christmas.”

Michaela Thomas, Refuge Co-ordinator, said: “Local businesses and members of the community are always so generous and we would like to thank everyone who supported the refuge this Christmas and throughout the year as well.

“It means so much to the mums and children.”
