Broadacres has become the first housing association in the UK to achieve a national award for its work to promote equality and diversity for the second time.
Broadacres was recently presented with the Diversity Network Accreditation (DNA) award from the Housing Diversity Network following an assessment of the way the organisation approaches equality and diversity. This information was gathered using a variety of methods, including interviews with staff and residents and analysis of documentation.
In 2013, when Broadacres first achieved the DNA award, including nine distinctions for good practice and innovation in equality and diversity. The new report has added two further distinctions to this – one for the way the organisation is working towards an accreditation from the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance, and another for the way it is embedding equality and diversity through organisational structures and practices, e.g. induction, training and team meetings.
Raj Patel, Chief Executive of the Housing Diversity Network said: “Broadacres is the first housing association to achieve the accreditation twice, which is a fantastic achievement.
“By going through the accreditation process again and opening itself up to scrutiny, it’s obvious that Broadacres has not simply rested on its laurels.
“Equality and diversity is clearly embedded across the organisation and is very much part of its DNA.”
Gail Hodgson, Broadacres’ Human Resources Manager, said: “This accreditation gets to the heart of who we are and what we do as an organisation, so we are delighted to have achieved this again.
“It’s by no means a tick box exercise for us, but a demonstration that we live by our values, can respond to an ever-changing world and fairly represent the communities we serve.”
