Broadacres is preparing to start work on a new £9.2 million affordable housing development on the site of a well-known former hotel and nightclub complex.
We will be building 79 homes for affordable rent on the footprint of the Tall Trees Hotel in Yarm. A further 35 properties will be offered for sale, including shared ownership, by the Association’s private development arm, Mulberry Homes Yorkshire.
Work is set to get underway in March and the two, three and four-bedroom homes will then be built in phases over the next few years.
Tall Trees was one of the landmark venues of the 1980s and 1990’s, with guests including former Prime Minister John Major and pop star Chesney Hawkes. Many of the world’s best DJ’s also performed in its adjoining nightclub, known as Macmillans.
Now the site will be transformed into a mixed tenure development, with the majority of homes being affordable, either via social rent or shared ownership, which gives people a chance to get their first foot on the property ladder.
Joy Whinnerah, Broadacres Development and Investment Director, said: “We are delighted to be getting underway with this exciting new development in such an iconic location as Tall Trees.
“It will provide a range of high-quality homes meeting the needs of a wide cross section of the local community, from people in need of affordable rented homes, through to those seeking low-cost home ownership options.
“Broadacres is committed to providing great homes, great places and great customer experience, and building developments in high demand areas such as Yarm is an excellent example of this.
“It also makes a significant contribution to the 1,250 new homes we are in the process of delivering as part of our corporate strategy.”
